Description

About this Work

Tera in Kutch was once home to prosperous merchant families who built houses with remarkable attention to craft. Their windows, doorways, and facades were carved with delicate ornamentation, small details that spoke of skill, patience, and pride in the making.

This fresco focuses on one such window, documented during a field visit to Tera as part of our ongoing research into the merchant architecture of Kutch. A single carved window frame, modest in scale but rich in detail. Fluted columns, an ornamental crown, balanced proportions. The kind of thing you walk past without noticing until you stop and really look.

Many of these houses are slowly disappearing. This piece is our way of holding on to one small, beautiful fragment of what they carried.

Painted using natural mineral pigments on a handcrafted lime-plaster surface, this piece belongs to our Heritage Fresco Series, a body of work rooted in specific places and surfaces documented through fieldwork across Kutch.

Natural mineral pigments on handcrafted lime-plaster fresco surface, mounted within a circular teak wood frame with natural oil finish.
