About this Piece
There is a particular quality to the ochre colour of Kutch, warm, sun-saturated, the yellow of turmeric and dry grass and afternoons that go on too long. It is the colour of the landscape in the weeks before the monsoon, when everything has been baked slow and the light turns gold.
Sundried Ochre is woven in that colour. A warm turmeric-ochre ground carrying vertical stripe clusters, slate-blue and rust running together in rhythm down the length of the fabric. What appears from a distance as a single stripe reveals itself up close as a quiet composition of fine lines, each one slightly different in tone, the way handloom always rewards closer looking.
The stripe emerges entirely through the weaving process, no print, no application. The colour is achieved using non-toxic dyes, keeping the natural character of the Kala Cotton fibre intact.
Kala Cotton is a sustainable indigenous cotton variety handwoven in Kutch, lightweight, breathable, and honest in its texture. It is a fabric that carries the place it came from. Wearing it is, in a small way, carrying Kutch.
This shirt is part of the House of Kutch 18 Limited Edition Kala Cotton Research Collection, an ongoing exploration of Kala Cotton's material possibilities through considered design and artisan craft. Sundried Ochre is one of eighteen. It will not be repeated.
Fit & Style
Designed with a classic tailored silhouette, the shirt features a traditional collar, full sleeves with cuffs, a single chest pocket, and natural button closure.
The vertical stripe and warm ochre palette give this shirt a considered, unhurried character, suited to a range of occasions, worn with ease. The amber-toned natural buttons complement the ochre ground without competing with it.
The fabric has a natural coarseness that softens with wear and washing, developing its own texture and character over time.

Care
To preserve the integrity of the handwoven Kala Cotton fabric:
• Wash at or below 30°C
• Hand wash separately
• Use mild detergent
• Do not wring
• Iron at medium temperature
• Line dry in shade
• Do not bleach
• Do not dry clean
As with all-natural handwoven Kala Cotton, slight shrinkage may occur after the first wash. We recommend washing in cold water and line drying in shade to minimise shrinkage and preserve the fabric's character over time.
As with all-natural handwoven textiles, gentle softening and subtle character development over time are part of the intended ageing process of the fabric.
Handmade Nature & Variations
Each shirt is individually handcrafted, resulting in subtle variations in weave, texture, colour, and finish.
Natural cotton flecks and seed specks may be visible within the fabric and are an authentic characteristic of Kala Cotton. These natural inclusions are part of the material's identity and should not be considered defects.
Actual colours and textures may vary slightly due to photography, lighting conditions, and screen settings.
