About this Piece

Ochre Weave is the most quietly confident shirt in this collection.

A deep golden-mustard ground, raw turmeric, warm and saturated, carries a single cream stripe running vertically from shoulder to hem. Not a cluster of lines. Not a pattern. Just one clean vertical, evenly spaced, repeating across the fabric with the unhurried rhythm of a handloom in motion.

The cream stripe is the natural undyed colour of the Kala Cotton fibre itself, the same cotton, uncoloured, allowed to show through against the dyed ground. The ochre ground is dyed using non-toxic dyes. What you see is the meeting of two states of the same material, one dyed, one as it came from the plant.

The band collar sets this shirt apart from every other in the series. No lapel, no camp collar, just a clean standing band that gives the shirt a considered, unhurried character. Equally at home in a studio, a meeting, or a quiet afternoon.

Kala Cotton is a sustainable indigenous cotton variety handwoven in Kutch, lightweight, breathable, and honest in its texture. It is a fabric that carries the place it came from. Wearing it is, in a small way, carrying Kutch.

This shirt is part of the House of Kutch 18 Limited Edition Kala Cotton Research Collection, an ongoing exploration of Kala Cotton's material possibilities through considered design and artisan craft. Ochre Weave is one of eighteen. It will not be repeated.

Fit & Style

Designed with a classic tailored silhouette, the shirt features a band collar, full sleeves with cuffs, a single chest pocket, and natural button closure.

The single vertical stripe and deep golden-mustard palette give this shirt a quiet authority, simple in composition, considered in detail. The natural off-white buttons complement the cream stripe, keeping the palette coherent from collar to cuff.

The fabric has a natural coarseness that softens with wear and washing, developing its own texture and character over time.

Craftmanship

Each shirt is individually cut and stitched using handwoven Kala Cotton produced by artisan weaving communities of Kutch. The single stripe pattern emerges through the handloom process, the natural undyed yarn woven into the dyed ground at deliberate intervals, creating geometry through craft rather than print. Natural variations in weave, texture, and stripe placement are part of what makes each shirt individual.

Numbered Edition

Every shirt carries an individually numbered serial tag identifying its place within the edition of eighteen. The serial number serves as a permanent record of the shirt's position within the Ochre Weave collection.

A Note on Sizing

The shirt is cut with a classic tailored silhouette and fits true to standard sizing. Please account for slight shrinkage after the first wash when selecting your size. If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up.

Care

To preserve the integrity of the handwoven Kala Cotton fabric:
• Wash at or below 30°C
• Hand wash separately
• Use mild detergent
• Do not wring
• Iron at medium temperature
• Line dry in shade
• Do not bleach
• Do not dry clean

As with all-natural handwoven Kala Cotton, slight shrinkage may occur after the first wash. We recommend washing in cold water and line drying in shade to minimise shrinkage and preserve the fabric's character over time.

As with all-natural handwoven textiles, gentle softening and subtle character development over time are part of the intended ageing process of the fabric.

Handmade Nature & Variations

Each shirt is individually handcrafted, resulting in subtle variations in weave, texture, colour, and finish.

Natural cotton flecks and seed specks may be visible within the fabric and are an authentic characteristic of Kala Cotton. These natural inclusions are part of the material's identity and should not be considered defects.

Actual colours and textures may vary slightly due to photography, lighting conditions, and screen settings.
