About this piece
The Arabian Sea was not a boundary for the Kutchi merchant. It was a road. But it was the Kharwa, the traditional seafaring community of Kutch's coastal towns, who truly knew that road. They read the wave, understood the monsoon, and navigated merchant dhows from port to distant port across open water. The merchant knew the value of goods. The Kharwa sailor knew the sea. Together, they built the trading world that shaped Kutch for centuries. The Lahar carving captures the quality of that movement, blades sweeping inward from the rim like a wave turning on itself, a current finding its centre. Handcarved from a single piece of teak by local artisans in collaboration with the House of Kutch studio. Each piece carries its own grain, depth, and surface character.

A laser engraved teak story card accompanies each plate, carrying the name, the story, and the world the carving comes from, in the same material as the plate itself.
